Edwardsburgh/Cardinal sits along the St. Lawrence River in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, with both Highway 416 and Highway 401 passing through the township. The area was first surveyed in 1783 and Edwardsburgh Township was incorporated in 1850, long before it merged with the Village of Cardinal on January 1, 2001 to form the township's present shape.
Cardinal, Johnstown, and Spencerville serve as the township's three main population centres, with Spencerville home to the administrative offices and its landmark stone mill on the South Nation River. Beyond these hubs, the township includes numerous smaller rural hamlets spread across its farmland.
At 309.91 square kilometres, the township balances river access with inland farm country, despite fronting the St. Lawrence River, most of its water actually drains north into the South Nation River rather than south, a detail that shapes its landscape as much river valley as riverside.
Housing ranges from riverside properties near Johnstown and Cardinal to farmhouses and rural lots further inland around Spencerville. Deb Driscoll, Jaime Peca, and Luke Geleynse work with buyers across Edwardsburgh-Cardinal and can help you navigate what's currently available, from riverside homes to inland farm acreage, with a highway corridor that keeps commuting straightforward.
