Winchester

Winchester is the largest village and administrative centre of North Dundas Township, in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, located about 50 km south of downtown Ottawa, roughly midway between Ottawa and Morrisburg. According to Statistics Canada's 2021 Census, North Dundas Township recorded 11,304 residents, essentially stable from 11,278 in 2016, a change of just 0.2%.

Incorporated as an independent village in 1888, Winchester was amalgamated with Chesterville and the townships of Mountain and Winchester in 1998 to form North Dundas. The village's Main Street retains its historic commercial character, and Winchester hosts Dairyfest, a summer agricultural festival, every August. The community is also home to Winchester District Memorial Hospital and Winchester Public School, which has served the area since 1890.

North Dundas Township spans 502.41 km², with a population density of 22.5 people per km², and recorded 4,673 total private dwellings in 2021, of which 4,537 were occupied by usual residents. The township includes a mix of villages and hamlets beyond Winchester itself, including Chesterville, South Mountain, and Mountain, connected by rural roads through farmland along the South Nation and East Castor Rivers.
