There are around 20 green spaces close by for residents to enjoy, including Alfred Taylor Recreation Facility - North Gower and Kars Recreation Centre. This neighbourhood is reasonably quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder sections, especially around the airport (Rideau Valley Air Park) or Highway 416.
The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of North Gower is an important part of its character. This part of the city offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Nearly 90% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners while the rest are rented. Roughly 30% of homes in this part of Ottawa were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
It is very rarely practical for property owners in this area to shop for groceries on foot. In terms of education, in North Gower, families will generally be able to access primary schools by walking. On the other hand, this area does not contain any high schools. The favoured approach to get around in North Gower is very often driving. Parking is quite easy. On the other hand, the public transit system in North Gower is not very practical. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. This part of Ottawa is not very suitable for walking as carrying out daily needs is very difficult on foot. North Gower is also not very cycling-friendly as this area is home to a quite bad cycling infrastructure, and there are a good number of hills for cyclists to brave.
